I'm extremely pleased to announce version 1.0 of the Zen-based UW-Madison theme! For now, it will be hosted here on the ComETS website.
Be sure to install the Zen base theme to get started. The theme supports both fixed and fluid width, as well as ajax menus, such as NiceMenu.
Props to Lauren Shawl for doing most of the heavy lifting, to Ron Crandall for an initial draft, and to Jessica Myrbo and Doug Worsham for their input.
The community is still seeking a port of the theme to D7 -- here's your chance to contribute!

Version 1.0: initial theme
Version 1.1: custom css file (use it!), ajax menu compatibility, footer tryptic and "feature" block regions

UW Madison Omega - Drupal 7
I had some freetime over the past couple of days and I finished a rough draft of a Drupal 7 Omega version of the UW Madison Theme. I have added it to GitHub and you can download the theme at https://github.com/nmillin/uw_madison_omega.
You can check out a screenshot of it at Flickr
Read the Readme.txt file to have a walkthrough on how to set it up using Omega & MegaMenu.
Hopefully I can demo it out at a meetup soon & get some feedback on what to do with all the whitespace for the content region.
Happy New Years everyone!
-Nate
Thanks!
I haven't had a chance to kick the tires yet, but wanted to thank you for the contribution. We've had a number of people ask about a D7 theme :)
Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
Nate,
Thank you for your work and for posting this! I think it would also be nice to send out an email to the dug@lists.wisc.edu group to notify others about it who may not stumble upon it here.
Omega is one of the themes (other than Zen) that I'd been considering for moving forward on a UW Drupal Theme. I've read that the developers of Omega are commited to accessibility similar to the Zen themers and heard good things about it from our community DrupalCampWI organizer, Blake Hall.
I will likely be grabbing your theme and testing it out on a site I've been working on. Will let you know if I have any feedback. I hope you were/will be able to get some feedback at a meetup. Unfortunately, I can't usually make it to those anymore - but for good reason -- I get to stay home with my baby boy most of the week!

p.s.
p.s. I've attached the zip of your theme from the original post. Hope that's ok!
re: Lauren
Thanks Lauren for checking out / testing the theme! I have updated the theme (on GitHub) to have default menu styling so you wouldn't be required to use the Mega Menus (what you suggested). If you could update the zip file on here that would be amazing. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions on how to improve the theme.
I have posted a similar post about the theme at http://groups.drupal.org/university-wisconsinmadison, but I will also send out an email to let people know.
I talked to John & Doug, and I'll be demoing this at the Feb 7th Drupal meeting at 1-2 PM, 274 Van Hise. (Sorry that you can't make it, but congrats on the baby boy!)
Thanks again for testing the theme.

attachment unlinked
I have unlinked the attachment for now, as it looks like we may have a few more iterations soon, and I don't want people to grab the wrong version here.
For anyone who is looking for Nate's Drupal 7 UW Omega theme, https://github.com/nmillin/uw_madison_omega is the best place to find the most current version for now!
Collaborators Welcome on the Drupal 7 UW Theme
If anyone else has downloaded the D7 Omega theme and wants to help us get it from a "rough draft" version to a "1.0 release" version, you can email me at lshawl AT pharmacy DOT wisc DOT edu, and I can share our Google doc where we've begun collaborating on this. (Basically I've been providing feedback to Nate who's been doing all the heavy lifting :)
Renamed Git account
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I renamed my git username because I had nmill for GitHub and nmillin for Drupal and I wanted to just have one. The Repository is still on GitHub, but it now at https://github.com/nmillin/uw_madison_omega. Hopefully this won't mess too many people up.

Great Work! WordPress Version?
Hey!
Wonderful work. We're building a WordPress install to host our students' ePortfolios over at SLIS. Does anyone know if a WordPress version of the UW theme has been created?
Thanks,
~Kyle Jones~

Zen?
Which version of Zen is needed to run the theme?
Zen 2
The theme is built for the 2.x version of Zen. I've been using 6.x-2.1.
ver6 in IE?
Hey folks,
I'm running the latest 1.1 (really 1.09) with Zen 2.1 and having issue with IE. Seems the main-wrapper is taking over the screen. No issues in Chrome/Firefox...
Did I miss something?
Message me if you have things working in IE.
Optimize
Have you set the Performance to optimize css? IE has some crazy problems with pages having too many stylesheets.
Fix was to optimize the
Fix was to optimize the css... one of those things I knew - but forgot. Thanks to John...
Watch out for each other
No problem! We have to watch out for each other :)
One other IE issue
Hey all - thanks again for the help early this year. We have used this theme a few times with much success! Thank you for all the hard work and effort. I ran into another IE issue this week that I'm wondering if it's a zen thing... a menu thing... etc..
In IE 7 and 8 - the menu's stack on top of each other as if we just went into mobile phone demisions. Message me if you want to see a screen shot, but it's easy to produce.
Thanks!
Module?
Just stock modules, or are you using NiceMenus or MegaMenus? I've had reasonable success with both, but haven't cracked open IE in some time.
No module
No specific modules for menu enhacement. Just stock drupal in all it's awesome-sauce. ;)
Omega theme, elsewhere
I just realized I didn't reply... This thread (and my experience) is for the D6 Zen-based theme. For the D7-Omega theme, you might try dropping a note to it's creator. Good luck!
