Summary (Decisions, Action Items, and Tabled Items):

Minutes

Attending: Sarah McDaniel, Mike Pitterle, Alan Ng, Lilian Tong.

  1. Background of this subcommittee: Steering Committee held a retreat last spring. CoMETs is being asked more and more often to provide guidance for other campus committees, groups. This subcommittee will manage those relationships and recruit representatives from CoMETs for those relationships.

Each CoMETs subcommittee has a representative from Steering Committee

Last year: this subcommittee's main work was participiating in the CIO's IT Strategic Planning project.
Lil asked: is this subcommittee reactive or proactive?
    Mike: Both.

  2. Discuss membership: Mike will recruit an Academic Technology representative
  3. CIO
    1. IT Strategic Plan. Sarah and Alan are team co-leads (on different teams). We are currently waiting for the CIO office to release the charters for public comment. Once that happens, and the mechanism for and nature of desired feedback is clarified, we'll discuss how CoMETs should respond to the charters: recruit individual feedback, or organize "CoMETs comments" after internal CoMETs discussions, ...?
  4. ITC. Mike (and Lisa Jansen) are the ex officio CoMETs representatives. Alan often attends (as a guest). CoMETs will do an iClickers presentation at an upcoming meeting in response to recent questions regarding the recent campus clicker changeover.
  5. eLearning Roadmap Group. Starting Spring 2009 it became a campus-wide group (expanded beyond just LUW, DoIT). Eric Alborn was in both this group and CoMETs steering committee but has now resigned from CoMETs. Steering Committee suggested that we recruit Ron Cramer or Rob Kohlhepp. The roadmap group meets once a month.
    1. Sarah will approach Ron C. We'll discuss plan B by e-mail if necessary.
  6. DoIT Engage Program. Sarah will be on the Pedagogy team. We are looking for an Engage representative to be on this subcommittee.
  7. Teaching Academy. Lil is a member and attends. Discussion of how to post teaching ideas from CoMETs members: post content to TLE or CoMETs and then a link from the other site to the content.
  8. Fully Prepared to Teach Dialogue. When it regroups, Sarah is in line to be on it (but not in her CoMETs capacity). Aaron wants CoMETs representation - Mike P went for CoMETs last spring.
  9. TEL: Continuing grants are separate from Diversity grants, but in the end a single committee reviews all the proposals. Lil is on that committee and is a PI on the Engineering/Bio TEL project. Last year TEL organized a Moodle discussion including CoMETs people. Lil will investigate if more info/communication from TEL can be shared with CoMETs.
  10. Moodle Council. Mike is on that. Moodle Council recently agreed to move their Web site into the CoMETs site but are otherwise still independent. Lil sees CoMETs as important for Moodle success in terms of setting up a support structure for faculty/students.
  11. Madison Initiative. There may be a future role for CoMETs in leveraging/ common threads among grants.
  12. DELTA: Lil volunteered to be our liaison to DELTA. Upcoming DELTA roundtable will be on how to incorporate a campus-wide reading project (Go Big Read) into individual course curricula. How about a technological solution to share student writing and allow reactions.
