Goal 4: Increase participation in ComETS communties (site login, group membership, and community posts) by 10%

Goals:

  • Increase number of ComETS members in ComETS communities
  • Increase activity in ComETS communities
  • Clarify ComETS communities/groups for membership

Process:

What does success look like?

  • More articulate presentation of groups/communities/teams
  • Increased membership in communities (currently 82 of 320 are members of a ComETS community)
  • Increase number of log-ins to the site (currently 200 have never logged in, and another 30 or so haven't logged in for 25 weeks)
  • Increase in number of posts in communities (currently 66 posts in 7 communities)
  • Increase in number of comments on community posts (not sure how to measure this exactly)?

ComETS Communities - Want to get connected?

Joining a ComETS Community is one of the best ways we have on campus to network, learn from each other, gain new skills, and find ways to work together more efficiently.

ComETS Communities bring together people on campus interested in a particular topic. Some of the Communities meet regularly, while others communicate primarily online.

Joining a ComETS Community is easy.

1. Log in to http://comets.wisc.edu/

2. Check out the list of Communities at http://comets.wisc.edu/og

3. Find one that you'd like to join, and click the "Join" link.

That's all there is to it!

Here's the current list of ComETS Communities

Accessibility - Discussion of accessibility issues

Clickers - Classroom response systems

Learning Spaces - The goal of this Community is to enhance formal and informal learning spaces on campus.

Media Shops - Representatives from Media Production Shops on the UW-Madison campus discuss current issues in media delivery.

Moodle Council - UW-Madison Moodle Council activities

Open Source - Instructional technologies which implement open standards

Simulations and Games - Conversations on the educational impact of simulations and games

Measure of success?

Since this was posted a couple times....I wonder what constitutes a successful community (online or otherwise). I'm not necessarily expecting an answer, but the perspectives of "increase ..." this or that are good, but if they increase by 1 is that good enough? In general, would it be helpful if we restated the larger goals into something that we consider more measureable?

Instead of "Increase understanding, awareness, and participation in ComETS communities"...maybe "Increase participation in ComETS communties (site login, group membership, and community posts) by 20%"....I'm not saying that should be it, but...

Another one, "Check assumptions about ComETS groups"..."Identify a cycle by which ComETS groups are born, nurtured into maturity, and disband."

Yet another attempt: "Learn more about our members" > "Define a regular process for identifying the ComETS membership and their roles."

Since I started: "Foster new group leaders; support group captains" > ....not sure about this one...."Identify tools and resources to help foster group leadership" (?)

....not sure if this is helpful....

Very helpful - good suggestions

Scott - this are good suggestions - can you work them in to the wiki document above (trying to encourage direct editing whenever possible). I think maybe we should aim for 10-15% at first - not sure how much "success" we might have here!

;-)

Done!

Done! Copied my versions of the goals into the titles....not sure if that's the best way to do that.
