The ComETS Steering Committee has invited Aaron M. Brower, Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning, and Kathy Christoph, Director of DoIT-Academic Technology, to speak with ComETS members about planning for continuity of instruction during a campus-wide pandemic. We realize that this is short notice for a ComETS event, but we felt that recent activities and newly-developed information on this topic needed to be shared with our group before the start of the fall semester.

All campus departments, schools and colleges are currently working to identify essential courses and planning to provide continuity to these courses in the event of a disruption. Initial plans are due September 30. It's very likely that educational technologies will be used to provide continuity of instruction through "social distancing."

The http://flu.wisc.edu site has been created to communicate planning documents and other information to the campus community. On August 17 Aaron and Kathy will review the planning that departments have been asked to undergo and the role ComETS members can play in planning and supporting continuity of instruction in their departments. This event will be broadcast live and will be archived for later viewing. The latest event information, including a link to the feed/archive, will be posted on this page ( http://comets.wisc.edu/event/pandemic-1 ).

This is the first of a two-part event. The second part will be scheduled later in September. Details will be posted on the ComETS listserv and website.
